ABOUT THIS PIECE:
Mary’s heart burns with love of God and for all of humanity. She suffered greatly while watching Our Lord and her Son mocked, tortured, and crucified. Thus, the sword is shown piercing her heart as a biblical reference to the prophecy of Simeon in the Gospel of Luke: “and you yourself a sword will pierce” (Luke 2:35)
Roses have been associated with Our Lady for centuries, often symbolizing purity. In fact, the term “Rosary” actually means “crown of roses.”
Mary holds a special place in the hearts of many since her “yes” to God played a significant role in our salvation history. It was through her that God chose to bring His Son into the world. We trust that Mary loves us and is continually praying for us and interceding on our behalf.
