Sacrifice of the Mass | Fine art Print
In light of the National Eucharistic Revival, it is my deepest hope that this fine art print of the Blessed Sacrament can be used to draw others deeper into the mystery of the Sacrifice of the Mass. Originally a commission, this piece is full of symbolism per request of the client.
At each Catholic Mass, Christ’s sacrifice is made fully present in a non-bloody fashion on the altar. It is a beautiful mystery in which we are asked to participate. In this piece, the crown of thorns and nails remind us of this Sacrifice that is made visible to us at each Mass, and how we, too, are invited to offer up our own sufferings and humilities with Christ.
The Latin prayer, “Ave Crux Spes Unica” (Hail the Cross, our only hope) is found engraved on the host.
Likewise, a dove is placed on the chalice to remind us that by Our Lord’s Death and Resurrection, we were given an Advocate (the Holy Spirit) to aid us on our pilgrimage to Heaven. Furthermore, the dove may act as a reminder to always call upon the Holy Spirit before spending time in prayer.
I pray this piece may serve as more than decorative art in homes/churches/schools. Rather, I hope it may be devotional in nature, providing a “meeting place of the heart” for viewers to spend time with Christ while contemplating the beautiful mystery we call the “Sacrifice of the Mass.”
